Creating Joy ~
Let me ask you a question ~ How much joy do you feel each day?
Think about it. Are you living each day just going through the motions of life? Feeling down from all that we've been living through?
Or, are you really experiencing life? Are you enjoying life by feeling joy often?
We've been living through heavy times causing many people to have lost touch with experiencing joy and feeling good.
Most of my clients tell they aren't feeling joy. And when I ask women, what brings you joy? They either don't know or they have to really think about it to give me a couple of examples.
I want you to know that you can feel good even when negativity surrounds you. I also want you to know that it's very difficult to experience something that you don't know how to define. If you aren't feeling joy in your life every single day, even once per day, it's time to start!
Here's a Simple Exercise You Can Do to Create Joy in Your Life
In order to experience an abundance of joy in your life, you need to know what brings you joy. It begins with asking yourself the question, What brings me joy?
Give yourself some time to reflect with a pen and paper. Whenever you're going inward and reflecting on a question, make it a pleasurable experience. This helps you get out of your head and into your heart, where the true answers can be found. Put your phone on Do Not Disturb, ensure that you won't be interrupted by others in your home, sit in a place that you love (I call this space in my home my Sacred Space), and bring in a few elements that make you feel good and encourage calm in the body; perhaps you want to put on some nice music, make a cup of calming tea, and light a candle, for example.
Once you've set the energy you're desiring in your space, sit up comfortably tall. By this I mean sitting up straight without feeling stiff like a board; you're not slouching and you're not sitting so erect that you're uncomfortable. Place your feet flat on the floor. Close your eyes and allow a few deep breaths. Inhale as deeply into your belly as you can, then allow long, slow and intentional exhales. Continue allowing these deep breaths until you begin to feel your heartrate slow down.
Then ask yourself, What brings me joy?
It might be enjoying a warm bath by candlelight, feeling intimate with your partner or spouse, walking in nature, playing with your children, cuddling with your pet, watching the sunset or the sunrise, traveling to new places, dining at interesting restaurants. Or, perhaps it brings you joy to read a good book, practice yoga, wear cozy clothing, cook, or declutter your home.
Write out as many things as you can. Ideally you want to have a variety of things and as many free or inexpensive things as possible. Though they don't all have to be free or inexpensive. However, the more free or easily attainable things you have, the more likely you are to do them.
Once you feel complete with your list, post it where you'll see it daily.
Then, make it your goal each day to experience at least 3 of the things on that list. And be sure to practice each joy-inducing activity with gratitude and as mindfully as you can.
It's as easy as that! This is how you create joy in your life.
When you know what brings you joy and you've declared it by writing it out, then posted it where you'll see it everyday and made it your goal to achieve some of the things on your list, you set yourself up to successfully create this experience in your life.
It's your birthright to feel joy. You deserve to feel good. Not once in a while, but as often as possible.
The more joy you feel within, the more it will radiate from you. Those in your life will feel your joy and it will inspire them to feel joy.
Make it your intention to create joy in your life every single day, it's within your power to do so and you are worthy of it!
So tell me ~ What brings you joy? Share a few things from your list in the comments. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
