Benefits of Beeswax Candles ~
I started using beeswax candles a few ago and I love, love, love them! I've always loved the soft glow of a candle burning and the feeling of calm that comes over me when a candle is lit. For all of my adult life I've been regularly lighting candles for these reasons. For many years I used scented candles, but not anymore. Ever since embracing a 'cleaner living' lifestyle, my body doesn't tolerate 'scented' things very well. Further, there are many claims that scented candles emit harmful chemicals into the air. (There are also many claims that this is false). Given that my body no longer enjoys artificially scented candles, and it's very possible that they do indeed emit chemicals when burning, I choose to no longer use them.
Why do I choose beeswax candles?
Probably the most common of all candles are those made with paraffin wax. If you research it you'll find that there are lots of people who say that paraffin is harmful because it's a petroleum waste product. There are also many others who will disagree stating that it's completely safe to burn paraffin wax. I choose not to use paraffin candles because I'm not convinced that they're the safest choice.
I am, however, convinced that beeswax is. Buying beeswax candles that state 100% beeswax or pure beeswax on the label, means I'm buying an all- natural product. Just having the word beeswax on the label isn't enough. Those candles likely only contain a small percentage of beeswax with a paraffin filler, because paraffin is very inexpensive.
I trust that when I burn candles made with 100% beeswax, I'm burning a candle that's safe for myself, my family, and my home.
Benefits of Beeswax Candles:
All Natural and Non-Toxic - Beeswax candles are all natural and don't produce any toxic byproducts when burned.
Cleaner Air - When burned, beeswax candles release negative ions. These negative ions help neutralize pollutants in the air, such as dust, mold, and odors. These candles are great for those with asthma or allergies.
Burn Brighter - Beeswax candles emit the purest, brightest light of all candles. Based on the light spectrum, it's the closest to sunlight. Burn a beeswax candle next to a non-beeswax candle and you'll see a difference.
Naturally Scented - Not only do I enjoy the beautiful glow from beeswax candles, I also love the delicate, sweet, honey scent. It's a natural scent and therefore not overpowering the way artificially scented candles tend to be.
Beeswax candles cost more, are they worth it?
In my opinion, absolutely! I used to believe a candle was a candle was candle. However, upon responding to my body no longer willing to tolerate the scented candles I once loved, research has taught me different. I'm willing to pay the little bit extra to burn candles in my home that I know are safe and clean the air around me, while I also benefit from the beauty of them.
