Benefits of Walking a Labyrinth ~
Labyrinth's have been used for centuries for group rituals and private meditation or prayer. Though they look like a maze, they're quite different from a maze. Whereas the many paths of a maze are meant to challenge one to find their way out, a labyrinth has one single path from the outer edge to the center. The intention is to walk to the center, then turn around and walk out the same path out.
Walking a labyrinth is meant to encourage deep contemplation while removing yourself from all distractions found in the outside world.
The spiral design represents a journey to your center before making your way back out into the world again. A labyrinth symbolizes a sacred space to connect to your spirit and true self.
Walking a labyrinth is a very easy practice that anyone can do. Walking the circular path of a labyrinth has many benefits including:
- Helping to calm the nervous system thereby reducing stress and anxiety
- Helping to release distractions from the outside world
- Quieting the mind
- Encouraging meditation or prayer
- Cultivating deeper self-awareness
- Restoring balance in life
- Improving creativity
- Encouraging self-reflection
