Winter - Comfort and Reflection ~

When you pay attention to, and follow the rhythms of your body, you’ll notice how you’re linked with nature.

We’re not separate from nature, we’re one with nature. This is a fact we often forget.

As we enter another winter season, I encourage you to feel into your body. Listen to the messages your body is giving you. Pay attention to what you feel like doing right now. To what you don't feel like doing right now. Are you tired? Do you need to sleep more? What foods do you feel like eating? What is your body craving and what is it telling you?

If we look to nature, we know that winter is when nature becomes still.

The harvest season is over, plants are resting. Many animals have migrated to enjoy a warmer climate, and some are hibernating. Many things come to a stop in winter, and those that don’t move at a slower pace. There’s a stillness, a peacefulness, a quietness that happens during this season.

When I learned how to pay attention to my body, I discovered that what my body craves always mirrors what’s going on around me in nature.

So naturally, winter is the time of year when I most feel like staying at home. It’s when I crave all things comfort; from the clothes that I wear to the foods that I eat. I always have a cozy wrap around my shoulders, or I’m snuggled under a warm blanket. I enjoy lots of hearty comforting foods during this season like homemade soups and baked potatoes. In the winter I drink more tea throughout the day and occasionally enjoy a cup of hot cocoa.

Winter is my season of quiet and introspection. I find myself reflecting more on my life, reading more, and I also tend to write more. For me, it’s the best time of year to go within and get to know yourself a bit more.

Over the winter season, particularly as we say so long to this year that has been incredibly challenging, I encourage you to slow down. To get still more often. Become more conscious and aware. Pay attention to what your body wants and be willing to accommodate it. Pay attention to what’s going on around you in nature and notice to how much your body wants to mirror that.

Reflect on this year that is soon coming to an end. Acknowledge and celebrate where you’ve grown, what you’ve learned, how far you’ve come.

And of course, do all of this with kindness and grace. Be kind, gentle, and loving towards yourself. Remember, wherever you are right now in your life, you're doing a great job.

What does your body crave in winter? Leave a comment, I’d love to hear how this season makes you feel.
